The fourth period is the apostasy after Jesus’ ministry. The fifth period has the longest treatise of any period (Jacob 5:30–75), which is logical since it depicts the latter-day fulfillment of the covenant made to Israel. It was to precede the time when “the end soon cometh,” the Second Coming of Christ. This is substantiated by the angel Moroni’s visit to Joseph Smith in September 1823. Moroni recited many passages of scripture about the coming of Christ with the admonition that they were “not yet fulfilled, but was soon to be” (Joseph Smith—History 1:36–41).
