“God Hath Done It, That They May Stumble”
The Apostle Paul, speaking of those who had not “the love of the truth” within their hearts, said that “God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:11-21) That is, when the Spirit has witnessed to the verity of gospel truths, and those truths are rejected, the one so rejecting becomes susceptible to spiritual delusions in any and all of their forms. There are many even in our day who “desire to know the truth in part, but not all, for they are not right” before God, and must needs repent“ (D&C 49:2). It is that refusal to repent and commit themselves to an undeviating course of righteousness which makes them heirs of falsehood and not truth; to close one’s ears to heaven’s voice is to amplify the sound of the discordant voices of men and devils.”
