“Over All His Works”

Brant Gardner

Jacob's conclusion to the line of argument begins with a declaration of our responsibility towards God. Jacob has presented a God who is interested in us, and shown that we can understand that God only through the words of the prophets. Now he addresses the heart of the matter. We need to understand that God so that we may know how to properly interact from our end. Jacob reminds us that such interaction will be on God's terms, not ours. We do not counsel God, but receive counsel from him. We interact properly with God by understanding how He has established the rules of that interaction. Furthermore, we may take comfort in knowing that God's requirements upon us come through love and mercy, and therefore will not be onerous.
