Jacob certainly followed Nephi’s instruction to touch lightly the history of his people. Since Jacob was a younger brother of Nephi, he would have been the record keeper during much of Jacob’s life. As mentioned above, only two of the seven chapters of our present text would be considered historical. Those two chapters are less than five of the eighteen and one-half pages written by Jacob. It will be interesting to learn the history that was written on “the other plates” (v. 3).
