“Neither Am I Mighty in Writing”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
Acknowledging feelings of inadequacy as a writer, Nephi laments that he cannot write with the power that he has known as a preacher. Yet he realizes that the Holy Ghost is the source of that power and that the Holy Ghost will testify of the truthfulness of that which he has written (see verse 4). The principle that “If you receive not the Spirit ye shall not teach” (D&C 42:14) is as true of that which is written as it is of that which is spoken. Conversely we might say that if the message is from God, the Spirit will bear witness of it, whether it is delivered orally or in writing.
