Nephi declares that he contrasts his style with other prophets. Nephi is “plain.” What are the others? They are following the styles of the Old World, as did his father. They speak in symbols and dreams. Nephi speaks in descriptive language. Nephi is not plain because others were fancy or convoluted. They were a different style, one that Nephi understood because of his background but did not reproduce because of his own preferences (2 Ne. 25:1–2).
Text: The break between verses 2 and 3 is an unfortunate visual separation between concepts. The first sentence of verse 3 is clearly building upon the last sentence of verse 2.
