God has placed various peoples throughout the world and spoken his words to them, and they have written those words. Out of all those written books God will judge the world, “every man according to their works.” That last phrase sounds like poor grammar in English, but the use of collective nouns is a proper Hebrew construction. Revelation 20:13 has the exact same phrase.
