We read of no people within the covers of the Bible to whom the Lord would not speak and who did not have the right to add to the number of its sacred books. Here the Lord points out the foolishness of a people who never have been in sufficient favor with him to hear his voice now assuming the right to tell others that they cannot have such a privilege. This is especially ironic given that the Bible, for which they claim such reverence, promises that the Lord will speak to all who inquire of him in faith (see James 1:5-6).
