In describing one of how remarkable and wonderful occasions in Nephite history where the Saints of God cared as much for their neighbors as for themselves, Mormon wrote:
“And they did impart of their substance, every man according to that which he had, to the poor, and the needy, and the sick, and the afflicted; and they did not wear costly apparel, yet they were neat and comely” (Alma 1:27).
“Thou shalt not be proud in thy heart,” the Lord said to the Latter-day Saints. “Let all thy garments be plain, and their beauty the beauty of the work of thine own hands; and let all things be done in cleanliness before me.” (D&C 42:40-41.)
