Why are nations compared to a “dream of a night vision” and hungry and thirsty men?

Thomas R. Valletta

In the last days God’s “judgments will come upon the wicked after they have rejected the testimonies of the Church’s prophets and missionaries” and, like “the Babylonians, Romans, … after their day of might and dominance, will fade away as a dream vanishes during the night. … The nations that fight against Jerusalem and Zion will, in the end, have no more lasting satisfaction than does a hungry person who only dreams of eating” (Parry et al., Understanding Isaiah, 262–63).
