Nephi continues his prophetic message which began in chapter 26. His is a vision of the final period of earth's history, “the days of the Gentiles.” It would be a dispensation of time wherein the fulness of the gospel would be delivered to the nations of the Gentiles, through whom it would go to the house of Israel.
It would also be a day of abominations, an era of intense opposition to the Lord and his latter-day church. And, finally, it would be a day of spiritual emptiness, a time of famine for the word of the Lord.
