It is not particularly clear how this passage fits into Nephi’s narration. Certainly it is a recounting of basic laws of God, based upon the Decalogue. However, the injunctions appear to come in the context of priestcrafts. Perhaps Nephi sees priestcrafts as contradicting some of these basic commandments, and certainly sees them as not obeying the injunction against contending one with another.
