Narrative: Nephi has been examining the future history of the Jews, and then his own people in their context as participants in the blessings and redemption of the Jews. The vision of the future has now turned to the gentile future, and turns on the comment that the gentiles must also come to a knowledge of Jesus as the Christ. Nephi uses the necessity of the gentiles to come to Christ as the literary device that allows him to move from the future history of the house of Israel to the future history of the gentiles’ relationship to Christ.
