“By Denying Him Ye Also Deny the Prophets and the Law”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

The irony of rejecting Jesus of Nazareth in the meridian of time was:

  1. Jesus was the same holy being, Jehovah, who had given the Law to Moses anciently (see 3 Nephi 15:5); and
  2. The Law, if understood properly (through the spirit of inspiration), pointed directly to Jesus as the Mediator of the new covenant and the promised Messiah.

To the Pharisees Jesus poignantly proclaimed: “Ye keep not the law. If ye had kept the law, ye would have received me, for I am he who gave the law.” (JST, Matthew 9:19.)

Further: “Why teach ye the law, and deny that which is written; and condemn him whom the Father hath sent to fulfill the law, that ye might all be redeemed?” (JST, Luke 16:20; cf. JST, Matthew 7:6-8.)
