Why did the law of Moses, important for many generations, eventually become “dead”?

Thomas R. Valletta

“The law of Moses was, for the rebellious children of Israel, an Elias, a forerunner, a ‘schoolmaster’ to Christ. And just as John the Baptist (a living Elias and forerunner of Christ) said, ‘He [Christ and the gospel] must increase, but I [John and the law of Moses] must decrease,’ so also is an increase of gospel understanding and a decrease in the significance of the law of Moses seen in the pages of the Book of Mormon” (Holland, Christ and the New Covenant, 136).
