The Book of Mormon prophets clearly understood that the law of Moses did not contain the fulness of the saving principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. They realized the law of Moses was given to prepare the people for the greater truths which were to be revealed. In 2 Nephi 25:24, Nephi writes: "And, notwithstanding we believe in Christ, we keep the law of Moses, and look forward with steadfastness unto Christ, until the law shall be fulfilled." Unfortunately, some of the people subsequently misunderstood this prophecy of Nephi and assumed that the law of Moses was fulfilled when the Savior was born upon the earth. However, it was made clear to them that the law of Moses was not to be fulfilled until after the resurrection of the Savior. (See 3 Nephi 1:24-25.)
