“The Remnant of Those That Are Slain”

Brant Gardner

The sons of kings inherit from their father, and the sons of a fallen king do not inherit glory, but often the fate of the father. When Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon conquered Judah, the fate of the King Zedekiah was extended and expanded upon his sons: “And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon” (2 Kgs. 25:7). The fallen Babylonian king’s sons may fear the same kind of vengeance.
