After the elect (wheat) is gathered, the sinners (tares) will be destroyed (v. 9). “The destruction of the wicked, which is the end of the [telestial] world” (JS—History 1:4), will be accompanied by changes in the heavens (v. 10). Several scriptures refer to changes in the stars, the sun, and the moon at the time of the Second Coming (see Joel 2:32; D&C 29:14; 34:9; 45:42; 88:87; 133:49; JS—History 1:33).
