In the desert world of Israelite prophets, water was life. At Sinai, Moses smote the rock, and water gushed forth to save a thirsty people. In the millennial earth the Messiah will provide the water of life; his people will symbolically draw water from the wells of salvation, water that springs up unto eternal life. Compare the language of John 4:13–14; 7:38; 1 Corinthians 10:4; and Revelation 21:6. Read also Isaiah 41:17–18.
