We note that verse 1 deals primarily with a "stem of Jesse" Then there is a rod growing out of this stem. There is also a great leader known as the branch which develops out of the roots of the stem, and finally there is root of the stem which we learn in verse 10 is the leader who initiates God's mighty work in the latter days. Of course, we would like to know the identity of these four symbols but that would be impossible unless the Lord gave us a key. That key was given to us in a modern revelation found in Doctrine and Covenants 113. In that revelation we learn that the stem of Jesse is none other than our Lord Jesus Christ himself.
