“God is a light to his people, but a burning flame to his enemies” (Reynolds and Sjodahl, Commentary on the Book of Mormon, 1:354). Isaiah illustrates here that the day would come when the Holy One would return as a light to Israel but a flame that “shall burn and shall devour his thorns and briers [Assyria] in one day” (2 Nephi 20:17).
