As Isaiah contemplates the destruction that is about to descend on these wicked Israelites, he makes an ominous prophecy. Because of the siege that will be waged against them, they will be reduced to starvation. They will even eat the flesh of their own dead children. This is the meaning of the morbid prediction that each man will eat the flesh of his own arm. Then for the third time in this chapter the Lord reminds the people that his anger against them and their wickedness will continue but his hand is stretched out still and repentance can bring a restoration of their blessings.
