“Israel’s consolation is ever the hope of their Messiah—he who will sit upon the throne of David and reign in everlasting peace. In the midst of his prophetic description of the night of Israel’s sorrows and apostate darkness, Isaiah saw a great light, the latter-day David, even Jesus the Christ, the acceptance of whom would bring to an end the vexations of Judah and Ephraim” (McConkie and Millet, Doctrinal Commentary, 1:281).
