“Jesus Christ has two legal roles in the heavenly courts. The first is as an attorney or advocate: ‘Jesus Christ the righteous’ is the ‘advocate with the Father’ (1 Jn. 2:1) who pleads the case of righteous souls. … Jesus Christ’s second role is as the judge in this divine court (Mosiah 3:10; Moro. 10:34; Moses 6:57), who passes judgment on the wicked. Standing was important in the ancient Israelite courtroom, where the judge stood to pronounce judgment” (Parry et al., Understanding Isaiah, 42–43).
