Why does Isaiah list these people?

Thomas R. Valletta

“Isaiah lists eleven types of people as a way to represent all who have achieved community honor and status, whether religious (prophets), civic (judges), political (men of war), artistic (craftsmen and orators), or in wisdom (older men). The nation will be left without military might (mighty man, man of war, captain of fifty), spiritual guidance (prophets), wise men (ancients), justice (judges), and artisans (skilled craftsmen). All these will be removed from Jerusalem” (Parry et al., Understanding Isaiah, 38).
