“Ye May Liken Them Unto You and Unto All Men”

Monte S. Nyman

This verse was given as an introduction to Nephi recording the thirteen consecutive chapters of Isaiah (2–14). 2 Nephi 25–30 were Nephi’s commentary on these thirteen chapters. Nephi anticipated the joy that could come from studying the words of Isaiah. He also suggested that the reader liken them unto themselves and unto all men. This verse serves as a major precept for this chapter.

This chapter is generally considered to be the first revelation given to Isaiah. This opinion is based on Isaiah’s recounting, in this chapter, his call to the ministry through a personal vision of the Lord. The symbolic description of the Lord, Isaiah’s calling and his mission, and a prophecy of the future were outlined above. The Book of Mormon has several differences from the KJV, but only two significant retentions.
