How would this gathering take place?

Thomas R. Valletta

Although the ultimate fulfillment of the gathering of Israel is spiritual, temporal forces, often political, may play a role in setting the stage for the gathering. “In March 1842 Elder Orson Hyde wrote the offices of the Millennial Star and offered these insights regarding the gathering of the Jews: ‘It was by political power and influence that the Jewish nation was broken down, and her subjects dispersed abroad; and I will here hazard the opinion, that by political power and influence they will be gathered and built up; and further, that England is destined in the wisdom and economy of heaven to stretch forth the arm of political power, and advance in the front ranks of this glorious enterprise.’ ([Roberts, Comprehensive History of the Church,] 2:168–69.) This inspired comment was fulfilled in the twentieth century” (Brewster, Behold, I Come Quickly, 129–30).
