The servant accuses Israel of hypocrisy. Although they profess to follow Yahweh, they actually “walk in darkness.” Because they have no natural light, they attempt to make their own by lighting fires. Although they could walk in daylight (full understanding of the gospel), they instead choose to illuminate way by “sparks,” or dim, insufficient light. They are on the path, not to glory, but to hell.
