Suddenly, without giving us any warning, Nephi unexpectedly commences recording a whole new section of the Book of Mormon comprising chapters six to ten. These sermons are interspersed with two chapters which Jacob quotes from the writings of Isaiah. According to verse 1, we are told that these talks were given to "the people of Nephi," indicating that this was probably a general conference of some kind.
We learn a lot from these verses. Jacob says he was ordained by Nephi to the Holy Order which would imply the Melchizedek Priesthood. He says that he has been very zealous in trying to teach them the message of the scriptures clear back to the time of the creation.
