These verses illustrate one of the most often repeated promises in the Book of Mormon: “Obedience to the commandments brings forth blessings (1 Ne. 14:1–2; 16:8; Mosiah 2:24). Lehi and Nephi were promised that through obedience, they and their posterity would receive a land of promise in which they would prosper (1 Ne. 2:20; 13:30; 2 Ne. 1:5, 9). This promise and its fulfillment are repeated throughout the Book of Mormon (Jarom 1:9; Omni 1:6; Mosiah 1:7; 2:22, 31; Alma 9:13, 22; 36:1, 30; 37:13; 38:1; 48:25; 50:20; 3 Ne. 5:22)” (Largey, Book of Mormon Reference Companion, 153).
