Joseph of Egypt says “a Moses” almost as if it were a title, rather than a name, thus suggesting the possibility that the original did not use the specific name but that either Lehi or Joseph Smith replaced the title with the personal name. The rest of the passage, however, clearly refers to the Moses. Like Nephi’s prophecy of the Messiah’s birth, this prophecy is much freer with the historical names of prophesied people.
