Joseph Smith’s statement, ’the teachers of religion…understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible’ (JS Hist 1:12) couldn’t be more accurately stated. Anyone who has had any religious discussion with someone of another faith, using the Bible only as a text, has experienced this amazing phenomenon. Nephi explained that because of the plain and precious things which were lost from the Bible, an exceedingly great many do stumble, yea, insomuch that Satan hath great power over them (1 Nephi 13:29). God in his infinite mercy and wisdom has provided a solution for this confusion, For God is not the author of confusion (1 Cor 14:33). The solution is the Book of Mormon.
