Opposition is here to stay. The attitude one has toward this “growth” requirement is essential to progress and happiness. A simple story concerning my friend John Covey teaches this principle beautifully. I went to the office of my friend for a little visit. We talked about our families and our callings in one of the BYU stakes. We continued and I asked how things were going? He responded, “Ed, I have this big problem I’m facing—but I’m really excited because when I achieve my goal I will have grown so much.” I stood in awe of my friend. We must face life with a positive and hopeful attitude regardless of the situation. He taught me a wonderful lesson—that stumbling blocks are not problems; they are stepping stones for growth. (Ed J.
