“Afflictions: Greatness of God”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

Lehi, as a loving parent, teaches Jacob and his other sons the plan of redemption so that they might understand and appreciate the goodness of God and His grace toward His children. Lehi’s goal is to guide his sons to choose liberty and eternal life over captivity and damnation. We, as loving parents, should teach our children likewise. We have the privilege of testifying that redemption comes through the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ as we seek after righteousness and covenant to be faithful and obedient. We should all teach that opposition is part of the plan and is necessary for our growth. Without trials, tribulation, and adversity, we cannot become perfected. As we come to recognize the law of opposition in all things we can see that our choices—the use of our agency—determine our course and our blessings here on earth and in the eternities to come.
