“Critics of the Book of Mormon have without reason asserted that this is plagiarism from Shakespeare. There is not the slightest ground for that assumption” (Reynolds and Sjodahl, Commentary on the Book of Mormon, 1:237–38).
Lehi “uses poetry and euphemism to describe his imminent departure from this life. … Similar poetic expressions appear in the King James Bible and in the works of Shakespeare and other great writers, but Lehi precedes and exceeds most of them” (Ogden and Skinner, Book of Mormon, 1:113).
