As part of the promise of protection and the penalty for unfaithfulness comes the prophecy of ultimate failure. In spite of the promise of protection, that protection would be withheld and the Nephites would dwindle in unbelief. In that day, “other nations” will certainly be brought upon them. This prophecy is fulfilled around A.D. 400 with the destruction of the Nephites at the hands of a Lamanite army enhanced by Gadianton robbers (Morm. 1:18, 2:28).
