Nephi now exhorts his brothers to consult the same source of information that he has (the brass plates) and testifies to their truthfulness. The gist of his sermon is that the scriptures teach obedience to Yahweh’s commandments. While he does not say so, the content of his sermon makes it clear those who have searched the scriptures, understood the commandments, and obeyed them are the righteous who need not fear the last days. Nephi’s plea is an open call to obey Yahweh, and he refrains from personalizing that call into a pointed invitation to Laman and Lemuel.
