When these great events occur, the Lord says the whole earth will began to break forth in singing because the Lord will comfort his people and bring mercy to them at the time they are gathered together. But a more complete version of this verse is given in the Book of Mormon as follows: “Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; for the feet of those who are in the east shall be established; and break forth into singing, O mountains; for they shall be smitten no more; for the Lord hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.” Those who are established in the east are probably the children of Judah at Jerusalem, while those who will be rescued from affliction in the mountains are probably the Lord’s people in the western hemisphere. This is borne out by the next verse:
“But, behold, Zion hath said: The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me -- but he will show that he hath not.”
