“This passage refers to the Lord’s blessings to those who are returning from exile, as well as to those returning from spiritual bondage. Whether in physical or spiritual captivity, they suffer both hunger and thirst, and the heat and sun threaten them; in their deliverance the Lord protects and nourishes them. In all circumstances, it is only through Christ that our spiritual hunger can be satisfied (John 6:35; Alma 31:38; 32:42; 3 Ne. 12:6; 20:8)” (Parry et al., Understanding Isaiah, 427).
