“Their Pastures Shall Be in All High Places”

Even before the organization of the Church, the Lord told Joseph Smith that he and his followers were to “declare glad tidings, [to] publish it upon the mountains, and upon every high place, and among every people that thou shalt be permitted to see” (D&C 19:29). After the organization of the Church this charge was given to the Quorum of the Twelve, who were told “thy path lieth among the mountains, and among many nations” (D&C 112:7).

Mountains have so frequently been the meeting place between God and men that temples built for the same purpose were known among the ancients as the “mountain of the Lord.” Since temples are the focal points of true religion, a restoration of the gospel must include the restoration of temple ritual and the return of Israel to “the mountain of the Lord's house,” where they can learn to walk in the paths of the God of Jacob.
