“Prisoners: Go Forth”
The phrase has a double meaning. It extends the teaching of the restored gospel to both sides of the veil. The promise to those who are in the prison of apostate doctrines and the bondage of false traditions is that they shall be brought out of “captivity,” or, as Isaiah put it, “out of obscurity and out of darkness” (Isaiah 29:18). “When the times of the Gentiles is come in, a light shall break forth among them that sit in darkness, and it shall be the fulness of my gospel” (D&C 45:28). Their promised restoration is a return to both the fulness of gospel principles and the lands of their inheritance (1 Nephi 22:12; D&C 113:9-10).
