“I Have Labored in Vain”
The work of God has never gone unopposed. Difficulty, disappointment, and discouragement are companions well known to those seeking to advance the cause of righteousness. While illegally imprisoned in Liberty Jail, Joseph Smith was told: “The ends of the earth shall inquire after thy name, and fools shall have thee in derision, and hell shall rage against thee” (D&C 122:1). The common lot of the faithful is to “suffer tribulation in their Redeemer’s name” (D&C 138:13).
