Lehi used similar imagery as he exhorted his sons Laman and Lemuel (see 1 Nephi 2:8–10). “Those who observe God’s commandments experience a peace of conscience that flows continually, even as a river does. Their righteousness will have a rippling and far-flung effect, just as the waves of the sea are set in motion by the forces of nature” (Brewster, Isaiah Plain and Simple, 184).
