What is meant by the metaphor “thy neck is an iron sinew”?

Thomas R. Valletta

“Figures of speech help bring abstract concepts alive and heighten expressions in memorable ways. Of course the neck is figuratively, not literally, an iron sinew. This metaphor is apt in showing the stiffneckedness, or pride, of Israel” (Largey, Book of Mormon Reference Companion, 114).
