Redaction: Nephi uses this verse as a transition from a written lecture for a future audience to a record of a sermon that he gave his people. He introduces both the historical reference and his current quotation of it simultaneously. Nephi read the Isaiah passages that follow to his people and wrote them down as part of the record he desired to leave.
The Isaiah texts that follow have a specific message: the redemption of Israel in Jerusalem. This redemption also applies to the Nephites—also separated from their ancestral home and awaiting restoration.
