Even though the Israelites hardened their hearts, Yahweh led them into the land of promise. Is Nephi suggesting to Laman and Lemuel that their efforts to return to Jerusalem will fail while, despite their resistance, Yahweh’s designs will be carried out and they will reach their own promised land—even though they continue to deny Yahweh’s hand in their journey? He clearly affirms that the sooner they give up pining for Jerusalem the better, for it is doomed.
