Nephi’s theme has been Israel’s deliverance from the Egyptians, thanks to Yahweh’s care. While unstated, his correlation between the fate of the children of Israel and their own family is the lesson he is driving home. Here he again uses facts that his brothers accept as part of their worldview to provide his oblique criticism of them.
