“We Have Suffered in the Wilderness”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet
There can be little question that there was considerable suffering during their wilderness wanderings. Some of it they brought upon themselves, having failed to exercise the heed and diligence necessary to receive direction from their Urim and Thummim, the Liahona. Still, even in faith and obedience, the way had not been easy. Such is not the purpose of earth life. Yet there is something sanctifying about such suffering, and, as difficult as it was, it would not compare with that which they escaped by leaving Jerusalem.
