The immediate effect of Lehi’s prayer and Yahweh’s response is Lehi’s realization that he had allowed his faith to wane. Nephi’s exhortations prompted him to return to Yahweh in humility. Although “he was truly chastened,” there is no reason to believe that he required Yahweh’s active chastisement. The simple communication painfully brought to Lehi’s mind the price he had paid for his murmuring.
