Lehi’s group, sometime after leaving their base camp, stops at a place they call Shazer. In Palestinian place-names, shajer is a common combination; the word means “trees,” and many Arabs pronounce the word shazher. According to Nibley, the word shajer and related terms, such as Shihor, Shaghur, Sajur, Saghir, Segor, Sozura, Shisur, and Shisar, all refer either to seepage or to a clump of trees. Since Lehi and his family would only have stopped for any significant amount of time at a place that offered water and shade, they chose a perfect name for their stopping place. (See Echoes, 461.)
